Hannah Jane Langstroth Drexel

Biographical Text

Hannah Jane Langstroth Drexel (1826-1858) was the daughter of Piscator Langstroth and Eliza Lehman Langstroth. Hannah married Francis A. Drexel in 1854. The couple had two daughters, Elizabeth Langstroth Drexel and Katharine Mary Drexel (who was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2000). Hannah Langstroth died shortly after giving birth to Katharine in 1858. After Francis remarried, Hannah’s family stayed in regular touch with Hannah’s daughters often having them visit the Langstroth home in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia.

While Hannah’s daughters were raised in an observant Catholic home, Hannah’s family had been German Baptist Brethren (also called Dunkers).
