Hala Dillsi, a teacher at Cleveland High School in Reseda, California, describes the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic as schools started closing and preparations made by schools and teachers. This interview describes adapting to online teaching and how schools responded to difficulties students faced with online classes, including outreach and implementing a new grading policy. Hala Dillsi discusses having conversations on health disparities and racial and social justice issues with students. This interview also discusses the impact of the pandemic on summer plans, including increased workload for teachers. The role of teachers and supporting students during the pandemic is discussed. This interview concludes with a discussion on how society can support teachers.
