Biographical Text
Elizabeth Langstroth Drexel Smith (1855-1890) was the eldest daughter of Francis A. Drexel and Hannah Langstroth Drexel, and sister to Saint Katharine Drexel and Louise Bouvier Drexel Morrell. She married Walter George Smith (1854–1924) in 1890. As her mother before her, Elizabeth died due to complications with her pregnancy. The baby was stillborn.
Prior to Elizabeth’s death, she had established the St. Francis de Sales’ Industrial School to house and educate orphaned boys. Her sister Louise maintained the funding for the school after Elizabeth’s passing. Read more about the Drexel sisters’ philanthropic work here.
