About “No Condition to Race, Religion, or Station”

This exhibit was created in 2023-2024 to explore issues of race in the early history of the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry (the original name of Drexel University). Incorporating preliminary research by Archives Technician Simon Ragovin, the exhibit was first conceived as a section of the Drexel Family Digital Archive. Staff soon determined that the subject matter related more to the Drexel Institute than the Drexel family and that it should be a separate exhibit.

“No Condition to Race, Religion, or Station” includes direct quotations from historical figures, and readers may find some words and phrases objectionable. Please read our  Statement on Harmful Content  and  Statement on Inclusivity  to understand the ways in which we are examining and changing the way we approach archival work.  If you encounter any harmful or offensive language or content on this website, in our finding aids, or in our digitized collections in Alma Digital, please contact us at  archives@drexel.edu.
