Description
This sterling silver epergne of pagoda design with four baskets and four dishes and a large central bowl was later engraved with the Drexel family crest of stag-above-crown and the initials, ""ERD,"" for Ellen Roset Drexel.
The earliest record of an epergne is 1725. They were typically used as a dining table centerpiece to serve pickles, fruits, nuts, sweetmeats and other savories.
