Husband of Frances Katherine Drexel (1852-1892), the second child of Anthony J. and Ellen Rosét Drexel. The two were married on December 6, 1877 in her parents' home. The Paul and Drexel families were well-acquainted through business; after marrying Frances, James joined Drexel & Co. as a partner and served there until his death in 1908.
