Description

Fiona Sarno was an Engineering student at Drexel University during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This interview first deals with Fiona Sarno’s experience during the quarantine living away from Philadelphia in her home town of Providence, RI. Fiona talks about restaurant closures and mask mandates. The interview then deals with how Fiona viewed the events of George Floyd’s murder, and the subsequent unrest throughout Philadelphia. Fiona details her interactions between herself and a friend whom was living in West Philadelphia during the city-wide protests. The interview then pivots to Fiona’s views on Drexel’s handling of the pandemic. Fiona discusses how the University’s handling of the events made her shameful to be a Drexel Student. She also touches on the governments poor response to the pandemic in the Spring and Summer of 2020. The interview concludes with Fiona expressing her feeling about returning to campus, and her plans to cope with attending remote classes from home.

This interview was conducted during HNRS 301: COVID-19, taught by Scott Knowles during summer quarter 2020.
