Olivia Eife was a fourth year Drexel student majoring in environmental engineering at the time of this interview. The interview first details Olivia’s experiences quarantining, and attending her classes remotely. She explains how she decided to live at home during the height of the pandemic to limit her exposure. In the spring of 2020 Olivia’s home town of Seattle city, New Jersey was relatively empty and had little positive case reports. Olivia continues to explain that the Summer brought waves of tourist to the beach town which she believes contributed to a significant rise in COVID-19 cases in her town. The interview then explains how Olivia was concerned with her intensive engineering program being conducted online. She then notes how the teachers at Drexel worked extremely hard in developing their virtual courses which in turn displayed the effort Drexel was putting into making online classes work for everyone. Overall, Olivia expresses that living within quarantine was a positive experience for her. From here the interview touches on changes to American ideals as a result of the murder of George Floyd. The interview then focuses on broader societal implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Olivia discusses some positives of the pandemic such as an increase in workplace flexibility. This interview concludes with Olivia’s take on the future of COVID-19, and a discussion of what pandemic habits will remain in the future.
