Biographical Text
Amanda "Minnie" Drexel Cassatt (1880-1954) was the daughter of Sarah Drexel Fell Van Rensselaer and the granddaughter of Anthony J. Drexel. She married Robert Kelso Cassatt, nephew of Impressionist painter Mary Stevenson Cassatt, in 1900. The couple had three children, two of whom survived to adulthood: Nellie Cassatt (1901-1901), Alexander Johnston Cassatt (1904-1985), and Anthony Drexel Cassatt (1906-1972). Minnie Drexel Cassatt died when her lit cigarette caused a fire in her apartment.
