Biographical Text
George W. Childs Drexel was Anthony J. Drexel's youngest son and took over the Public Ledger upon the death of the original owner, his namesake and close family friend George W. Childs. Drexel ran the newspaper for eight years before retiring in 1902. He then proceeded to undertake several extended trips on his steam yacht Alcedo through Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, with his wife Mary S. Irick Drexel and their nephew Livingston L.
