My darling John
I have just read
your letter of 27th + I am
very glad to hear by
it darling Alice + the
baby are well.
It was very nice in Alice
to have Anthony + his
family with you on
their return. I hope
you all enjoy each
other s society.
I should have liked them
to have gone to 39th +

Walnut but I know
they did what they
thought was best
I am glad to hear such
good accounts of your
Mamma. I have received
letters from Miss Lizzie[not clear]
+ George saying she is
much better + is looking
so well
It must have been a
great surprise to
Anthony + Reta for you
to have met them at
breakfast on the steamer
Had they any trouble
in passing their baggage
through the Custom House?

I am getting along nicely here but
often think what a pleasant time
we had together four years ago.
I take about the same walks + do
pretty much the same things

I always breakfast at the Zaeger(?)
house + take dinner at the Victoria(?)
+ supper at Pupps
[illegible] + family are here +
I[illegible] + I breakfast + walk
together until 12 o clock. I go
to the Theatre when they have a

good opera they are
playing the same pieces
they did when you were
here last
I am looking forward
to having you with me
at Runnemede when
I return
I will leave here in a
couple of weeks +
stop a couple of days at
Dresden + Berlin + expect
to embark on the
3d July at Hamburg in
the Columbia
