Other Sarah Drexel Van Rensselaer Homes

Sarah Van Rensselaer house at 18th and Walnut in 1970 (then Penn Athletic Club)

Top left: Between 1896 and 1898, the Boston architectural firm Peabody and Stearns constructed a Beaux Arts style home for a newly formed family: Sarah D. Fell, her four children, and her new husband Alexander Van Rensselaer. The home can still be found at 1801 Walnut Street. The building became the clubhouse of the Penn Athletic Club in 1942. After major renovations in the mid-1970s, the building became a commercial retail space.

Bottom left and below: Sarah Van Rensselaer also maintained a house on South Broad Street, likely in the Broad Street Historic District. Although little is known about the home, interior photos of the house reveal several paintings held by the Drexel Collection today.
